I am slowly losing my wannabe punk antics and have no current direction as to where my style is heading to. Wherever I may land eventually, a sense of languidness will definitely be present in it. These are some pieces I am into at the moment.
Jen Kao is my current favourite designer, I love this feminine dimensional dress. Instead of padding the shoulder, why not pad up where girls like me need more? Have I mentioned I am a sucker for pink and grey combinations as well? Yes to the colourful fringey shoes as well.
Tough biker chick is too common now, how about being a pretty one instead? And yet another dimensional looking panel dress I need.
At last we meet the sun-kissed Jen Kao, she surely does represent her own label well doesn’t she? Looking good and are those Nicholas Kirkwood shoes I see?
I definitely have to get this fiery pink and grey wash jeans from Siwy. This is one of the best faded washes I have seen in awhile. Style name? Lovesick. Let’s pray that the china manufacturers will not replicate this and ruin the fun for me.
I wonder if anyone can get away with this super cool work shirt from Vena Cava? Perhaps with a blazer.
And besides Motel, I have discovered another great brand called Evil Twin which has got this amazing bustier at the moment. Not sure if its worth 42 pounds a pop though? Plus I’m not exactly at my slimmest at the moment.
And of course, my newfound love for Stella McCartney. This bra is amazing! I love champagne as a lingerie colour, and it always looks good under all the black, red and grey that I wear.
Dear all,
I know its been forever since I last updated but I feel like fashion has come to a sort of a standstill and while I am still shopping and buying new things, I don’t feel that thrill that comes with finding something special anymore. Call it fashion depression or whatsoever but a lot of the eighties styles aren’t agreeing very much with me at the moment. Shoulder-pads, power dressing and skin-tight dresses were fun and interesting for awhile but now I see almost half of the girls on the street doing it; it looks like a social uniform and then I look at some of my own clothes and realise, I am one of them too. Oops.
For the past few months, I find myself favouring more Stella McCartney than Balmain, completely losing my interest in bags (when you live in a country where almost every other girl carries a designer bag, suddenly carrying a high street one seems much more wiser), buying more shoes (okay, so that hasn’t changed much) and completely avoiding hoisery.
However, 2010 is a brand new year and I am determined to take a different approach when it comes to style. I will not be affected by whatever the public is wearing and will be back on the search for all the things about fashion that I loved, especially in 2005-2006. I have to say that despite the jadedness I feel right now with regards to everyone’s style, the following 3 blogger’s styles still inspires me till today and all 3 of them, in my opinion, have more individuality (at least style-wise) than most of the other blogs I’ve missed.

Shedding our former Topshop infested style reveals a newfound interest in Warehouse, a slightly more grown-up high street label, which channels the right look for two almost mid-twenties girls. We are enjoying the slightly more tailored look and the classic style that is present in every single trendy piece in store. Today, me and Grace had some fun trying on a few looks using Warehouse pieces.

In case you haven’t heard, denim on denim ain’t necessary a crime anymore. With more trendy features like exposed zips and a well-tailored cut, it takes the old denim jacket to the modern level. Still, denim on denim is dangerous territory, so I would still proceed with caution.

Grace is wearing an amazing Vivienne Westwood looking tailored tartan dress in this one, styled with a sequined draped waistcoat which I randomly grabbed to experiment with the denim dress. This is actually my favourite look of the day, the sequined waistcoat on the tartan print looks so “off” yet somewhat fitting at the same time. I think tailored dresses really lends itself easily to fun pieces despite the ridgity feel that usually comes with it.

Layering lace is another way to do wear denim these days, but to be honest, denim is like a canvas and it would pretty much go with anything, just like jeans. The only down-side to this outfit is the proportions of the lace jacket. The general aesthetic of how lace and denim looks together is represented only averagely in this outfit because of the length of the jacket. However, I still really like this look.
Siwy Denim, June & Adam Lippes hold a very special place in my heart because I had the opportunity to communicate with all 3 of the designers. They all happen to be amazingly down-to-earth and passionate about their work and being able to witness that on a more personal level really makes me feel even more loyal to them.
With a piece from each designer, I have created a dream “tribute” outfit that I think looks absolutely fitting and complimentary to each other. I am working on acquiring all these pieces.

Leather + Sheer + Acid Wash = The New Rebelle?
I am trying to order the red leather sleeveless leather jacket as we speak. It will go with practically almost everything in my wardrobe. The studs are just like sweet cherries on top of a good quality sundae. New outfit idea alert!

I just discovered a delightful line called Astars which are from the same company that produces motorsports wear, Alpine Stars. Astars is inspired by the general attitude of motorsports wear and its history and it is targeted at women who are looking for a rebellious touch. (hello? me?!)
However, I find it more grungey and surfer-chic more than “motorsports-like” but what’s most important is that they have some amazing simple, slouchy and cool looking pieces in all the right amounts. I am really into faded black at the moment and they seem to have quite a few styles in that shade. In fact, I just ordered one of their tanks in a black & white ombre from Manhattanite. I also love their signature flap pocket detailing and that little leather triangle which is on all their tanks.
American Apparel is what I am pretty much living in these days but I need to look for something more durable as they aren’t exactly the best quality. Astars tanks are made from micro-modal (no shrinking, stretching almost ever!) so they might stand a chance. I shall come back with a full report once I received my first one and then I’ll look into getting those in the faded black. I could seriously just live in such tanks & denim shorts for the rest of my life, seems like I’ve fallen into a lazy (but still rebellious) habit. Oops!

Balamin meets Isabel Marant, no?
I lost the studded cuff (as worn on last post) yesterday. Such a bummer! I was so obsessed with that thing.
This top I’m wearing is sick. But it would be even sicker if it was a sheer lace corset underneath. The hunt for a new studded cuff is on, and I am off to the gym in an hour on this sunday night and tomorrow is a well-deserved bank holiday.
I spent last night at the beach. There was a lot of nonsense going on. Shopping first, beach later, that’s Grace & I’s usual protocol on a lazy weekend.

Balmain fever has hit me. Sparkle-mania has begun. What’s next? 80s disco-party-shoulderpads and crazy hair?
Perhaps not.
I know. I know. I need a new bag.
I am not usually a fan of resort collections (too much nautical or east hampton style going on usually) but I got bored on Sunday and found a few worth talking about. They aren’t exactly the most “resort-ful” combinations but that is precisely why it piqued my interest. So, Lo and behold! These are me favourite looks which are quintessentially cool enough for me (or maybe you?).
Adam

I am more drawn to the skirts than the embellished necklines. I like how he kept the silhouette of the textured skirts classic & simple. Thats Adam for you, always keeping an element of simplicity in all his designs.
Emanuel Unagaro

Nothing we’ve never seen before after the outfits are dissected apart but I loved the styling of Unagaro’s collection, most notably the ankle leather straps. There’s this makeshift look about it which appeals to nonchalance. The dress is pretty amazing too, he injected some power by giving some structure to romantic lace on the shoulders, while allowing some cheekiness to show through with the pink colour and exposed zip.
Alexander McQueen

McQueen produced some pretty iconic-worthy statement jackets. I am especially smitten with the second one. Its got a denim meets leather look but I reckon its actually a dyed leather jacket. And i love the bold bursts of random colour on the jeans, they actually resemble comets.
3. 1 Philip Lim

Is Philip Lim stealing Alexander Wang’s ideas? The black bag with chain straps (which is very covetable, nonetheless) looks rather identical to Alexander Wang’s Brenda. I really think I need that pair of silver lame cropped harem trousers, or should I call them harem shorts? Its good to have more choices when it comes to clothing the bottom half, especially in the Singapore heat.
Not exactly something I would wear but I really thought the second outfit stood out very well. Its slightly reminiscent of Jane of Sea of Shoes style. I would probably wear the gilet and the jeans seperately with something simpler though. That blouse is just not me. I just don’t do blouses, ever. But it works so well there.

Was just out for dinner earlier and spotted this near the window of Topshop. It was instant love! Me & Grace scurried into the shop to have a closer look and after a quick browse, went to try it on and then the rest is history, as they say.

Not exactly sure where to wear it to but I just love the print. Its bound to scare men off but I reckon skeletal print might just be the new skull & crossbone. My shoes are new as well, very Givenchy inspired and from Zara. I decided not to buy any of the shoes on the last post after seeing these! I will be honest and tell you that they hurt though! But they are too cool to give up so I shall just endure it!
Hope everyone’s had a great weekend! I sure did!
Getting bored of my clothes.. time to shop I say.

Wearing this Miss Selfridge dress that I bought a few months ago. Very addicted to it. Faded black is the new black to me.
Had dinner at my favourite “trans-fat free” restaurant, Cedele. Risotto is my new addiction!

I borrowed this Kenneth Jay Lane snake cuff from Grace for the night. I am so in love with it! I really feel like I need one but I know I don’t actually “need” it, but its just so green and sparkly! Green is my new favourite colour for jewellery. Its official!

Grace was wearing a cooler outfit than I was so I reckon I needed to show it! She has the same Zara shoes that I have. Those shoes are amazing. Her super cool jeans are from Tripp NYC (Hot Topic) and I am also thinking of em. How could I betray Michelle Siwy though?

Me standing outside a closed Topshop.

Me & Grace pretending to be “disgusted” at something – could be anything. Lol.
I have serious contemplation to do at the moment. Which pairs should I get? The Ann Demulmeester copies by Free People or the Balmain copies from Jeffrey Campbell? Decisions. Decisions.
